Western Maryland Scenic Railroad

The sound you are hearing is Western Maryland's #734
The WMSR is located in Cumberland, Maryland about one and one-half hours south of Altoona,
Pa. They run an awesome three hour excursion between Cumberland and Frostburg. This includes
an hour layover in Frostburg. The railroad, dubbed "Mountain Thunder" is a fast moving, smooth
trek through the Allegheny Mountains. The train climbs about 1200 feet in elevation in it's ride to
Frostburg. The coaches are closed, quiet, and air-conditioned. They also have two open air cars.
You're also able to move freely about on the train, something not permissible on some excursions.
My favorite is standing on the decks between the passenger cars getting covered in soot! WOW!
In Frostburg, you can watch the loco being turned on a turntable for the trip back to Cumberland. After
that, there is ample time left to eat, sight-see, And do some souvenir shopping. This ride is
definitely one of my favorites and extremely enjoyable each and every time we go there!
